The school, Pisa and Viareggio
The Istituto Linguistico Mediterraneo is located in Pisa and in Viareggio (open only during the summer). The choice of the 2 sites, so close to each other, but nevertheless so different has been made to offer students a wider range of possible learning and holiday activities.
They are both medium-size town, therefore safe and enabling people to have more contacts with native Italians and with the most common and peculiar expression of Italian culture and lifestyle.
Viareggio is a well knows seaside resort, offering many opportunities of entertainments during the hot summer evenings and boasting a wonderful white long sandy beach, equipped with all the possible facilities to accompany learning aims with sunbathing, relaxing sunsets and exiting evenings.
Pisa is famous for the Leaning Tower.

But unfortunately just a few people know there is more in it and around it.
Its location is in fact strategic; that’s why it hosts one of the biggest airport in Italy and the biggest one in Tuscany, with a lot of flights coming directly from the main cities, specially European. Moreover the major airlines offer low cost flights from and to Pisa, making it easier and more affordable the whole vacation.
Being in the Center of Italy, all the major cities can be easily reached: Florence (1 hour), Siena (2 hours), Bologna (2hours), Milan (3hours), Rome (3,5 hours) and Lucca, the seaside, la Versilia are just there!

In the time of a day or a weekend, people can visit many places and can appreciate and enjoy the most well known monuments of this rich country.
Moreover Pisa has a lot to offer in itself. Besides the Leaning Tower, located in Campo dei Miracoli, it is possible to reach the river Arno, walking along ancient roads and crossing beautiful little squares (we recommends Piazza dei Cavalieri), where precious old buildings show their facades maintained through the centuries and now testimonials of a glorious past.
Along the river bridges and buildings reflect themselves on to the water.
Special importance to the river and to the whole city center and traditions is given in June, month in which the city celebrates San Ranieri, the Patron Saint, or the “Gioco del Ponte”, or the “Regata Storica” which goes back to the ancient history of the “Repubbliche Marinare”.
On the 16th of June, the night before San Ranieri, all the buildings along the river are framed by thousand of candles, which reflect themselves on to the water, mixing with the candles floating on the water which are slightly moved by the stream towards the sea.
In Pisa it is also possible to visit museums and exhibitions: San Matteo, the museum of the city, the “Museo del Duomo”, the “Museo delle Sinopie”, the “Stazione Leopolda” and the “Arsenali Medicei”, where 2 Roman ships can be admired.

The Istituto Linguistico Mediterraneo is aware of these opportunities and has been developing throughout the years the ability to make the most of Pisa strong points, proposing activities aiming at both, improving language skills and deepening the knowledge of what is meant by the word “Italian”, from where it is comes from up to what it is now.
