The international Gnam review – “Gastronomy in modern art” (from 7th October 2007 to 6th January 2008 in Parma), combines the contemporary culture with food. Two contemporary art exhibitions stand out within this review (Food scapes – Art & Gastronomy and Piatti di Carta) that present different aspects of the same theme (that is eating), through the relationship between food and art.
“Foodscapes – Art and Gastronomy” wants to reflect about food from the historical, anthropological social and cultural point of view through a wide range of paintings, which make us think over the sacredness of food and which can point out even the beastly aspect of the eating action.
In this exhibition you can find artists as Marina Abramovic, John Armleder, Chun Sung-Myung, Silvano De Pietri, Stefano Spagnoli, Barthélémy Toguo, Wim Wenders.
The Piatti di Carta exhibition, on the other hand, inquires into the relationship between food and culture, by contemplating the Italian advertisement posters, starting from the 20th – century Italy and proving by documents the change caused by the economic boom in our country.
Besides the exhibitions the review presents many interesting events, too that deal with the food-culture combination: meetings with artists of international renown (Gérard Depardieu is going to present his book “My cooking”), performances, meetings with writers, photographic installations as the one by Corrado Dalcò entitled “Eat me” and photographic exhibitions as the one by Peter Menzel and Faith D’Aluisio “Hungry Planet”.
GNAM presents many events and the programme is rich in opportunities for who wishes to deepen the food topic and discover that it can become an expression of our time’s culture through art.
