Festival of the Fen Grasses Civilization: a meeting between the history and the culture of a territory
September 6th, 2007Views:2472
The Festival of the Fen Grasses civilization is held in Villanova di Bagnacavallo, in the Lamone Valley in province of Ravenna, from 7th to 10th September 2007.
This is the festival’s 23rd edition and what we have found interesting is its purpose: to save the ancient image of the genuine Bassa Romagna, that is today still vivid thanks to the work of the Marsh Civilization Ecomuseum.
In fact, during the festival, visitors will have the possibility to see at work the last craftsmen who are still able to carry out the old tecniques of plaiting, weaving and twisting the valley’s fen grasses. These tecniques had been one of the principal working activities of the small Villanova community until the first half of the 20th century
Moreover, in the same days of the festival, some other different activities are scheduled: walks and cycle rides for everybody, visits to the Ethnopark “Villanova delle capanne” (where you can admire the buildings built-up in ditch reed, that are typical from Romagna) and, obviously, the possibility to taste the typical food from the valley (with “strozzapreti” and “strozzasindaci” at your pleasure – two typical kinds of home-made pasta), accompanied by some evenings with vernacular theatre, songs and dances.
There will also be a big market with artistic and natural products, with antiques and some old handicraft shops with their manufactured products.
We remind you that the entrance for the festival, the exhibitions, the Museum, the Ethnopark and to the shows is free of charge.
Enjoy your visit!!
