The International ‘Salone del Gusto’ is a biennial event organized by Slow Food, the Piedmont Regional Authority and, for the first time this year, the Turin City Council. Since 1996 the Salone del Gusto has been a regular fixture for everyone wanting to discover and appreciate the wonderful world of food and wine. The event has achieved increasing popularity and has not only brought flavours and traditions to the attention of a wider public, but also extraordinary examples of historic and environmental heritage in the food area.

For the first time an entire pavilion of the Salone del Gusto – from October 26 to 30,2006 in Turin- will be completely dedicated to the Slow Food Foundation Presidia about the food biodiversity.

There will be the producers of 200 Italian Presidia, divided by regions, and the producers of 85 international Presidia, divided according to each continent of origin. Particularly the space dedicated to the Presidia from Africa, Asia and Latin America was organised like a market, with stands and local handicrafts.
As always, behind the stands you will find the producers, with which you will be able to chat in order to know better their stories and the food on sale.
At the centre of the pavilion there will be an area dedicated to the Slow Food Foundation for Biodiversity, where you will be able to find out about international projects (operational and in pipeline).
Moreover, this year there will be also the Biodiversity Bookshop, that will present books about sustainable agriculture, environment, responsible tourism and globalisation.

The 2006 edition of Terra Madre is another world meeting organised by Slow Food at the same time as Salone del Gusto.
Terra Madre, world meeting of Food Communities, brings together producers and others involved in agriculture and food activities from around the globe. They represent an alternative and more complex way of understanding quality food: one that is aware of environmental resources, global balances, the sensory characteristics of food, the dignity of workers and the health of consumers.
In 2006 there will be strong links between the Salone del Gusto and Terra Madre since the two events are being held at the same time and in close proximity to each other. The Salone del Gusto will be at Lingotto Fiere and Terra Madre will use the new facilities at the Oval and Palavela. But the two events will maintain their distinct character: the Salone del Gusto is always more of a direct meeting between producers of quality products and consumers, while Terra Madre 2006 will be an opportunity for members of Food Communities to meet and explore issues in depth.

We wish you to attend at least one of this two activities that, in our opinion, let us understand better the value and the richness of biodiversity, through the knowledge of food and habits of a lot of Countries in the world.
