Magritte’s Empire of the lights

We’d like to mention to you an exhibition, very interesting in our opinion, about Renè Magritte’s art, entitled “Empire of the lights” (25th March/16th July 2006).
This exhibition shows no less then sixty works by the Belgian artist, produced between 1925 and 1967, that came mostly from the Belgian Royal Museum of Fine Arts.
This show highlights the artist’s life, since his join to the Brussels’ Surrealist Group to his death in 1967.
Works on exhibit get together not only Magritte’s paintings and sketches, but also his illustrated letters and some photos, which portrait scenes about the artist’s everyday life.
Besides, this exhibition is organised in the wonderful background of Villa Olmo, on the Como’s lake, a building in neoclassical style, wanted by the Marquis Innocenzo Odescalchi at the end of 1700.
This villa, since 1982, also houses the Volta’s Centre, which organises different scientific events of great importance.
Our suggest is “to make a jump” to Como’s lake and to enjoy the exhibition and the place, which houses it, for a day about art and culture!
